“Renessenz receives Facility Excellence Award”
Phil Ulichney, Director of Manufacturing for Plasmine Technology; Richard Corwin, Area Special for Renessenz Colonels Island Facility; Charlie Morris, President & COO of PCA;
Orlando, FL. Renessenz – Colonels Island Facility in Brunswick, GA, was awarded the Environmental, Health and Safety Facility Excellence Award, on April 16, 2015 by the Pine Chemicals Association. The award was accepted by Richard Corwin, Area Specialist of Renessenz, during the Pine Chemicals Association Spring Meeting that was held at the Villas of Grand Cypress in Orlando, Florida.
The Environmental, Health and Safety Facility Excellence award is given to recognize and honor a member company facility that has identified and evaluated environmental, health and safety hazards in the workplace and demonstrated excellence through the implementation of hazard controls that significantly reduced risk, ensuring that employee safety and health is a core value of the organization.
Renessenz’s selection was based on a number of factors, including the implementation of their Hazard recognition program which was launched in 2014 that concentrated on the individual to review his/her risks when preparing to perform a task. This program included daily discussions surrounding the sharing of near misses with the shift team and how a near miss could have easily turned into an incident. In addition, they added more proactive tracking and reporting to the current H&S program while increasing the participation of existing leading indicators. In response to these changes, the facility saw a 200% increase in near miss observations ad completed the 2014 calendar year with no OSHA recordable injuries.
A safety library was established to provide topics that could be shared to help initiate discussion. “This includes the request that everyone was assigned a day to share a particular near miss moment (on the job or off the job observation.),” stated Bert Long.
The Pine Chemicals Association congratulates Pinora Holdings – Colonels Island Brunswick, GA, Plant Management and the Colonel’s Island Facility employees for their commitment to Environmental, Health and Safety Facility Excellence in the workplace and community which they operate.
