“ORGKHIM Biochemical Holding Management Company, JSC receives Facility Excellence Award”
Austin, TX. ORGKHIM Biochemical Holding Management Company, JSC, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia Plant, was awarded the Safety and Health Facility Excellence Award on April 14, 2016 by the Pine Chemicals Association. The award was presented to Nikolay Khodov, CEO of ORGKHIM, during the Pine Chemicals Association Spring Meeting that was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, TX.
The Safety and Health Facility Excellence award is given to recognize and honor a member company facility that has identified and evaluated safety and health hazards in the workplace and demonstrated excellence through the implementation of hazard controls that significantly reduced risk, ensuring that employee safety and health is a core value of the organization.
ORGKHIM’s selection was based on many innovative factors, such being the implementation of a new emissions project. In this project, ORGKHIM switched from using heating oil as a boiler fuel to using natural gas in order to reduce greenhouse gases. The implementation of this project enabled ORGKHIM to reduce emissions from 6.3mt of CO2 (equivalent to $1 USD of product value) down to 4.5mt of CO2 (equivalent to $1 USD of product value). This is a 1.8mt of CO2 for $1USD or 75% emissions reduction. Also, the quality of wastewater treatment has considerably increased with a COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) value reduction by a factor of 15, as confirmed by the unit operations reports and instrumental measurements.

“Arizona Employee receives Employee Excellence Award”
Austin, TX. Mark Williams, General Maintenance Mechanic - Safety Engagement Member with Arizona Chemical Company, a Kraton Company, Savannah Plant in Savannah, GA, was awarded the 2015 Environmental, Health and Safety Employee Excellence on April 14, 2016 by Pine Chemicals Association. The award was accepted by Greg McLean, on Mr. Williams’ behalf, at the Spring Meeting held at the Four Season’s in Austin, TX.
The Environmental, Health and Safety Employee Excellence award is given to recognize and honor an employee of a member company that has demonstrated excellence in their strong commitment to ensure environmental, health and safety initiatives that are a core value of the organization.
Williams’ selection was based on a number of factors, including the installation of a unique lifting device to pull heavy metal filters from hot resin filter pots. “Mark has consistently taken the initiative to resolve safety concerns and demonstrates our vision of “Nobody Gets Hurt” at Arizona Chemical by setting the example for his peers,” stated Tim Gaskin, who nominated Williams for the award.
Mark is a founding member of our Safety Engagement Team and has been able to improve the safety and health of Arizona Chemical’s employees. Mark has been an instrumental driving force behind the following items through to completion during the 2015 year.
1. Installation of a permanent sump pump and hard pipe to the U-drain to eliminate the buildup of water eliminating a slippery walkway;
2. Relocation of several air quick connections that improved ergonomics in the shop;
3. Modification of the curb at the rear of the maintenance receiving door to allow for easier access of with a dolly;
4. Relocation of a pipe that created a low head clearance concern where maintenance and operators must work;
5. Installation of lifting devices above the resin hot filters eliminating the need to manually lift the heavy filters from their filter body.

“Leadership Excellence Award has Two Winners”
Austin, TX. Nikolay Khodov, CEO of ORGKHIM BCH Management Company, JSC – Nizhny Novgorod, Russian Federation, and Mason Faggert, Plant Manager of Arizona Chemical, a Kraton company – Panama City, FL, were awarded the 2015 Environmental, Health and Safety Leadership Excellence Award on April 14, 2016, by the Pine Chemicals Association. The award was presented during the Pine Chemicals Association Spring Meeting held at the Four Seasons, in Austin, TX.
The Environmental, Health and Safety Leadership Excellence Award is given to recognize and honor an individual in a top leadership position of a member company that has demonstrated excellence in their organizational leadership skills and strong commitment to manage environmental, health and safety excellence programs as a core value of the organization.
Khodov’s selection was based on a number of factors, including his efforts to “Champion the manufacture of high quality and ecologically friendly products of ‘Green Chemistry’,” stated Aleksandr Volkov, who nominated Khodov for the award.
Khodov has been CEO since 2001 and in that time he has continuously committed to providing the employees with appropriate working conditions and a safe working environment. With the implementation of such programs as “Safety Standard,” “Manager Standard,” and workspace organization system 6S (5S+1S=Safety), an elimination of workplace emergency incidents and accidents have resulted. Mr. Khodov was also instrumental in the 75% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and improving the wastewater quality to higher than that of theriver water by implementing a project for switching from heating oil to natural gas, as well as, an innovative water treatment system. By the end of 2015 all quality and environmental safety goals were fully accomplished.
Faggert’s selection too was based on a number of factors, including his continued safety efforts in the face of adversity. “Since becoming the plant manager in September 2015, Mason has made clear to the employees that safety is a value, not a priority, and that we will operate this facility with EHS at the forefront. He has made the call to shut down operations for safety issues, he follows up on safety concerns brought to him by operators and he spends a great deal of time in the plant coaching and mentoring the employees to be safe at all times,” responded Kimberly Burgess, who nominated Faggert for the award.
During the after effects of a serious safety incident at the Panama City Plant, Faggert could be found, in conjunction with the Union president and EHS Manager, visiting each and every control room discussing the importance of safety for each employee and reminding operators “safety will never be compromised for increased production.” Mr. Faggert’s dedication to and leadership in safety is evident in every aspect of his position. As of 2016, Faggert has made it clear that EHS will be the primary goal and each employee will have leading EHS goals in their annual objectives to include complete training, audits, and ergonomic assessments.
