Field Response of Black Turpentine Beetle to Pine Resin Oxidation and Pheromone Displacement

GA LeMay, T O'Loughlin, D Wakarchuk, J Hulcr - Journal of Chemical Ecology, 2022

… We mimicked natural terpene autooxidation processes by bubbling oxygen into
warm turpentine. The oxidation products are complex (Moore et al. 1956), but can be
grouped by their appearance at different stages of the oxidation process. Early in the …

This is interesting. One would think that oxidized turpentine would attract pine beetles, but not so.

[HTML]Measurement and Prediction of Isothermal Vapor–Liquid Equilibrium and Thermodynamic Properties of a Turpentine+ Rosin System Using the COSMO-RS Model

… An FDA approved material Rosin, a binder for pharmaceutical tablets, can be
used to address both of the aforementioned issues; the main … In addition, the
hydrolysis of the rosin esters will allow for its recovery. Here, we present our efforts …

The PR&S Committee just completed a monograph for USP on the use of rosin as an excipient.

[PDF]Implementation of the Fuel Quality Directive and the related legislation within a corporate bio-obligation system

I Myllymäki - 2015

... Biodiesel – Biodiesel usually refers to fatty acid methyl ester (FAME), but in this thesis biodiesel

but biodiesel and biogasoline from tall oil pitch (TOP) is also produced there. ...

An interesting discussion of how the large Finnish oil refiner, Neste, has built a profitable biofuels business based on tall-oil pitch. Of course, the profit is really derived from the explicit and implicit subsidies provided by the government and the taxpayers.

Methods and systems for forming stable droplets
United States Patent 11318096 B2 · Filed: 12/17/2019 · Published: 05/03/2022

Assignee:

Ojai Energetics PBC (Ojai, CA, US)

Inventors:

Kleidon, William (Ojai, CA, US)
Kirkland, Justin (Champaign, IL, US)

This patent is really a long, detailed compendium of cannabinoids being mixed with many other incompatible compounds, i.e. adjuvants that can allow increased use in humans, moreso than would be possible if cannabinoids were mixed physically without adjuvants.  The real question is how many cannabinoid- based mixtures actually work, and have FDA approvals.

Organic acid systems
United States Patent 11319479 B2 · Filed: 03/10/2020 · Published: 05/03/2022

Assignee:

FLUID ENERGY GROUP LTD. (Calgary, CA)

Inventors:

Purdy, Clay (Medicine Hat, CA)
Weissenberger, Markus (Calgary, CA)
Lee, Adrienne (Calgary, CA)

This patent deals with acid compositions and their employ in the oil recovery industry.  There are some similarities to corrosion problems sometimes faced by PCA members in this patent. BTW, the use of terpenes is explained as a corrosion inhibition component.

METHODS OF KILLING NEMATODES COMPRISING THE APPLICATION OF AN ENCAPSULATED TERPENE COMPONENT
European Patent EP3659437 B1 · Filed: 01/24/2005 · Published: 05/04/2022

Assignee:

EDEN RESEARCH PLC (Oxfordshire OX14 4RQ, GB)

Inventors:

FRANKLIN LANNY (US)
OSTROFF GARY (US)

We are starting to see patents like this where terpenes are being encapsulated for application to destroy insect pests.  And the use of terpenes to kill pernicious pests.

Composition to promote migration of acarids
United States Patent 11324209 B2 · Filed: 11/30/2018 · Published: 05/10/2022

Assignee:

ACAR'UP SPRL (Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, BE)

Inventors:

Penninckx, Dorian (Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, BE)
Mailleux, Anne-catherine (Genval, BE)

This is a novel method to eliminate acarids without killing them with pesticides.  Terpenes are used to get the insects to leave the premises, like giving the pests the bum’s rush.
