2026 April - EHS Regulatory Updates

Regulatory News,

Colleagues,

Please see the attached April regulatory update. A few items worth your attention:

  • Heat illness is moving toward enforcement, not just rulemaking. Even without a finalized standard, expectations are already being set at the federal and state level. Now is the time to pressure-test your programs.
  • OSHA’s position on recordability continues to tighten. The recent lithium battery interpretation reinforces a simple reality: if it happens at work, it will likely be deemed recordable. Make sure your teams are aligned on this.
  • EPA is signaling operational shifts. The proposed move to eliminate paper manifests and the extension of GHG reporting deadlines both point to continued evolution in reporting expectations and systems.

These aren’t isolated updates; they reflect a broader trend: less tolerance for ambiguity and more expectation for disciplined execution.

Leadership takeaway:
Don’t wait for final rules. Most organizations don’t struggle with awareness; they struggle with consistent execution.
