James 'Jim' Turner

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Michael "Jim" Turner, who passed away on Oct. 3, 2026, at the age of 72, following a brief illness.

Born on Aug. 5, 1954, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Jim lived a life marked by creativity, curiosity, leadership and devotion to those he loved. He was a beloved brother, trusted friend, community leader and respected business executive whose warmth, generosity and unique spirit touched the lives of many.

A man of many talents, Jim possessed a remarkable creative gift and an adventurous soul. He found joy and expression through songwriting, piano playing and visual art, pursuits that reflected his imagination and passion for life. Jim traveled the world extensively for both business and leisure, embracing new cultures, experiences and friendships along the way.

Among his many personal goals was a uniquely memorable one: to play Elton John's "Rocket Man" on a piano in every country he visited. Whether in a hotel lobby, a cruise ship, restaurant or bar, he shared this classic and created lasting memories for him and those there in the moment.

Raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Jim was a multi-sport athlete and nurtured his acumen for music through choir and many "garage bands." After graduating from the University of Delaware, he used his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering to launch a distinguished professional career, earning recognition as one of the foremost experts in the pine chemicals industry. He spent many years with Hercules Inc. and later Pinova, where he became known for his extensive technical expertise, strategic vision and ability to build trusted relationships. Following his corporate career, Jim founded Vistaurum, leveraging his talents to provide consulting and business development services to clients around the world.

Jim was equally committed to serving his community. He was a longtime member of the Golden Isles Rotary Club and led numerous service initiatives. He also served as president of his homeowners association.

Jim was blessed to find great companionship and joy in his final seven years with his loving partner, Christine Sheehy. Together they shared adventures, laughter, friendship and a love of travel.

Jim is survived by his brothers, John D. Turner (Nancie) of Newark, Delaware, Stephen R. Turner (Heidi Woody) of Atlanta and Richard R. Turner (Lisa) of Miramar Beach, Florida; and his sister, Theresa A. Mikowski (Glen) of St. Simons Island; and his partner, Christine Sheehy of Manchester, New Jersey. He also leaves behind many extended family members, dear friends, colleagues and neighbors. His was truly a life fully lived.

A celebration of life has been planned in the near future for family and friends.
